Creating a Covenant
What is the purpose of your covenant?
The purpose of this covenant is to deepen the friendship between my friend and I and to have someone we can fully trust. It is there so we can find a meaningful relationship. This covenant shows what we can and cannot do right in front of us.
What promises are being made by the people involved? What rules must people follow once they are in the covenant?
Both of us have to promise to trust the other person to tell the truth and be trustworthy. We also need to trust that the other person trusts us. We have to promise to always be there to listen and help the other person. Once in the covenant, dishonesty and not standing up for eachother behind their back is unacceptable.
Create a ritual to seal or celebrate the covenant agreement. Describe what happens in this ritual and where it takes place.
Our ritual is to cook and share a meal together every week so we can talk and discuss how we can strengthen are relationship with eachother and with other people. It will be a time to communicate our feelings and catch up. It can happened anywhere with a place to cook and eat together.
What is the symbol of this covenant?
Our symbol is the Infinate Knot that symbolizes the meaning our friendship has which is that its infinate and too complex to unravel. It also shows that we both have to rely on eachother to make this friendship work.
What happens to someone if they break the covenant agreement?
If the covenant is broken, we must talk and come to a common agreement to either end the friendship or to give the other person another chance. They will also face consequences and get time to reflect on what they did wrong and what was their role in the break-up of their friendship.
How can someone get back into the covenant after they have broken it?
To get back into the covenant, the person must truly show that they feel sorry for whatever their role was in the break-up and what they will do to make-up for it. One thing they can do is cook a meal for both of us alone which should give them time to reflect. They must also apologize to the other person and say they have done that must be considered to get back into the covenant.
Why is it important to have this covenant in place?
The importance of this covenant is to show the promises all layed out. This covenant will be the "hard copy" of all the terms and conditions so there is no conflict later on. This shows what we must do to keep and grow the friendship.
